STAAR review is in full swing in 8th grade science classes! Yesterday students raced to answer questions over subatomic particles (they were VERY competitive). Today students built atoms. The only way students can earn tokens is by answering questions correctly about the elements and periodic table. Way to go Yellowjackets!

Spring Break is just around the corner! See the images for upcoming calendar announcements.

Some fun things have happened in elementary science lately! Check out the images to see what 3rd and 5th grade science have been up to.

7th grade science chose a biome to research and build last week. Students had to figure out the climates and precipitation, common animals and their food chains/webs, symbiotic relationships, and human impacts on their particular biomes. Mrs. Powell is very proud of the work her students put into this! Way to go Yellowjackets!

Mrs. Powell's 6th grade class learned about volcanoes last week and decided to make some models! Students were given the choice to make their models erupt or not. It was a week long research and build! Some of the aspects researched included the four main types of volcanoes, parts of a volcano, where volcanoes are found, what type of plate boundaries volcanoes are formed at, and the “Ring of Fire”. It was messy, but it was so much fun! Check out the images for the projects. It's a great day to be a Yellowjacket!

Please read the awesome leadership essay written by Jeremiah Girardo-Ham!

Please see the images for the district's updated testing dates for the months of March, April, May, and June.
STAAR testing dates look a little different this year! The state's designated testing windows spread the tests out; which results in testing occurring over a total of three weeks. The calendar has the specific tests and grades listed on the date in which they will be administered; with make-up testing scheduled to occur every Friday for any absences during that week.
For the ASVAB testing, this is only for juniors or seniors interested in this testing opportunity in order to increase their ASVAB score to pursue a career within the military. Juniors and seniors - please check your email for sign ups!
If you have any testing-related questions, please contact Mrs. Thompson at lthompson@chesterisd.com

Today we had a medical situation that required an ambulance to be called. Students were held in their classrooms until the ambulance was gone. There was no threat or danger to students.

Our 2nd graders practiced their research skills in science. Check out their animal projects! Great job yellowjackets!

Our kindergarten students learned about two-dimensional shapes recently and created a Flat Shape Poster using marshmallows, sticks, yarn, and sticky notes to build their shapes. Last week, they learned about three-dimensional shapes and applied their knowledge to demonstrate how to build a 3D shape and shared with their classmates their new found knowledge!

Reminder: School will be released at 12:45 today! Students return to school Tuesday.
